  1. I have an MPEG-2 file I want to cut some commericals out of, but I don't want to degrade the quality by recompressing it. Is there any way I can just cut out the commercials and splice the parts of the original file together?

I tried using TMPGEnc MPEG Editor to do this, but the new file has problems stalling in playback. I have found if I set it to output the file with Constant Bit Rate video, this does not happen, but the file is twice the size of the original video. Which doesn't make sense to me, since the new video is shorter.

I use VideoRedo. It's perfect and I don't think it re-encodes any frames at all.

    Also, there's ProjectX.

They're both very good (no quality loss at all as it's pretty much direct stream copying) and are good with keeping audio in sync.
They take about a couple minutes for an hour length video.

PS. ProjectX is free. VideoRedo is not.

If the mpeg stream is dvd compliant then .

Use batch demux from dvdauthorgui's website to demux the mpeg into seperate video and audio stream's .
If audio is seen as m2a , rename the extension to mpa .

If audio issue remain's it can be stripped out as wav via virtualmod .
Then converted to ac3 using besweet .

While it virtualmod , follow the guide on how to generate the the celltime's text file .

Remux using rejig , muxman ... or if you know the issue's with ifoedit , you can use it .

  5. Do you know of any tutorials on using Cuttermaran? I downloaded the program and got it setup, but I can't figure out how to use the program's interface.

By the way, the video files are just MPEG2 files with MP2 audio.

Womble's MPEG2VCR is very good for simple cutting and pasting of video, keeps in sync and doesn't recode unnecessarily.
