Hello & Happy New Year to All.

OK, I've got the hang of burning single layer DVDs using ImgBurn. Now I want to better understand of setting the Layer Break Position when making a DL-DVD. Tried to search using Google & the search fuctions for here (VideoHelp.com). Does anyone know where I can find a write-up explaining the pros and cons for or interrpeting Padding, % Split, File/VTS, PGC, Cell, V/C ID and SPLIP.

When ImgBurn list nine diffferent break positions along with a boat-load of number associated with each break point, and all nine points reporting 'average' recommendations, are there pros & cons to the usage of large verses small amounts of Padding?

And what about the rest of the numbers, are they really 'not important" in making a 'best' selection?

Searching for Insight - Thanks in Advance,
    Trainmaster

From what I've been doing in dvd dl .

To avoid the wait as shown in the guide , cell's 36 and 37 would each include fadein / fadeout ... just depend's where the split will be used , this way most dont see the problem in playback ... for those using multiple title's , it's the same principle .

    Trainmaster,

No, I've never seen a writeup like you describe, but all you need to know is the following.

In the ImgBurn layer break selection window, the colored stars represent the grading of the possible layer break choices based on several factors, and should be the main criteria for selecting the layer break. If you have equal rated choices, additional factors to consider would be:

The "%" column spells out how much is to be written to layer 0 and layer 1. The first number refers to the percent written to layer 0, the second to layer 1. It should should be as close to 50/50 as possible. 51/49 would be less preferable.

The "SPLIP" column should be "No", which means that it is not flagged for seamless play. This column would have more weight than what's in the "%" column.

In the situation you describe (9 possible choices, all ranked as "average") you would be better off using PgcEdit to set the layer break. It lets you preview the video in the currently selected cell by clicking the "Preview Cell" button at the bottom of the layer break selection window. As an alternative, if you click the "Preview PGC" button, you can use the "Cell" box, scroll bar, and "Play" button to see more clearly what effect a layer break in that location would have by checking the end of the preceeding cell as well as the beginning of the potential layer break cell.

The next version of ImgBurn is supposed to have a preview also, but it's not available (yet).
