I have a Toshiba TV with an integrated Freeview box. I plan to buy a DVD recorder with HDD capability.
Looking at the DVD player connection guide (Antenna to DVD recorder to TV (using aerial cable) and TV to DVD recorder (using SCART) I can't see how the DVD would be able to 'read' the digital signal.
Will I be able to record Freeview programmes using the TV's in-built freeview decoder, or will I need to buy a DVD recorder with an inbuilt Freeview box?
The TV has 2 scart sockets, an S-Video connection and RGB connections (if this matters).

You will need a seperate Freeview decoder for the recorder. I don't believe there are any dvd recorders with built in Freeview decoders.
