My 520 will not start up fully. When I try to start up the display says "Power on" for about a minute before turning off for a second, and then trying to start itself up again- over and over.
The little clock icon blinks on and off contiuously when plugged in.

Don't know it this is related, but I would occasionally have a problem when trying to dub a program from the hard drive to DVD. The machine would not dub the complete program - say 80 out of 90 min. would be burned to the DVD. If I then lopped off the last 10 I could then add it to the DVD as a seperate program. I had just done this, but did not finalize before turning off the machine as usual (left the DVD in the machine). Later, when I tried to turn it on, it would just do the "Power on" bit mentioned above. Also, the "HDD>DVD" lights up on the display when I try to turn it on. The DVD is still inside.

I've tried unplugging the machine to reset (for a couple of weeks) to no avail. The guy at Pioneer says it sounds like a hard drive problem and to send it in. Any suggestions?

It sounds like a hard drive problem and send it in.

Otherwise, if you press and hold the Stop button on the front panel and then press the Standby/On button, this resets the Pioneer to its factory-default settings. It probably won't make any difference in your case, but give it a try.

Thanks Frobozz. I took your suggestion and you're right - it didn't work! Guess it's the shop for me. Thanks again, and thanks to Videohelp, the forums and the contributers whose advice and info has helped me choose a variety of gear.
