You can also view it in HijackThis. In the main window, press the Config button under "Other stuff", then press the Misc Tools button at the top. There should be an "Open Hosts File Manager" button under the "System Tools" section. From there, you can do things like delete lines within the Hosts file, or send it to Notepad for more detailed editing.
Note that non-trojan/spyware/virus programs can add legitimate entries to the Hosts file as well; it might be a good idea to get others' opinions on entries before you delete them.

If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

Jim44 thank you, I got it.
To everyone, I want to thank everyone for your terrific help and advice. Unfortunately I have not been able to correct the problem so I guess this weekend I will be reformatting and reinstalling all weekend. Everyone has been great. Thanks a million.

A rootkit would also explain that behavior.
I'd give http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/cure.shtml BlackLight or http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/RootkitRevealer.html Rootkit Revealer a try as well.

Google Norton Ghost or Acronis.
BTW, did you even try the process that I posted for trying to disinfect your system? You didn't even post anything regarding my suggestion. -
Gkar I did try your process, the problem I have and have mentioned in earlier posts is that I cannot reboot in safe mode for some reason. I really do appreciate the time, advice, and response that you have taken time to give me. Thank you.

If you have another computer to puts around on (and burn a cd) I suggest that you try to make a bartPE disc, nu2.nu and add in and update the mcafee plugin for it, it shouldn't be hard at all since basically all you need to do is add the mcafee plugin, get the dat and extract t to the proper folder, and build with supported CD or files.
Once you've done that you can boot your computer using it, then scan for viruses. If you get that going let me know, the front end he provies for mcafee is nice but it isn't the most stregent scan you can do with it, I'm too lazy to find the Command I have for it but I'll share it. -
Bigstusexy thank you for the post. The only other computer I have access to would be my computer at work. I am not computer savvy enough to follow what you are saying in your post above but if you could possibly give me a step by step guide on how to do this then I am sure I could do it. I will certainly understand if you do not have the time, thank you again.
Thank You,

Hrm... yeah it would be a bit hard but ifyou check out the guide at
http://nu2.nu/pebuilder/
it shouldn't be too hard, you don't have to add any plugins except the mcafee one (which may be included) They also supply documentation on how to get the files needed for that plugin.
The only reason I say go the route is because the commandline scanner can only read file systems that whatever its running on can, so if you boot with a dos diskette you can't scan NTFS (which is what xp usually uses). -
bigstusexy thank you for the reply. Have a nice weekend.
Thank You,
