I'm hoping to stream the video, eventually. It's currently much too large for this (440MB), and I'm thinking encoding the file into a different format might reduce the size. Any ideas? tools? Ideas regarding streaming such a video? It's roughly an hour long. Thanks in advance.

Filesize is all about bitrate. So what you really want is a codec that is more efficient with bitrate, and in comparison with MPEG-1, XVID, DivX, and WMV are all around 2-4 times more efficient that MPEG-1 (when done right) whilst retaining a similar quality.

I would recommend AutoGK for Xvid or Divx and Windows Movie Maker for WMV.
    If in doubt, Google it.
