Hey mats.hogberg, just curious as to was state of the art video editors and effects applications you would suggest. I am still fairly new to menu creating, but would like to get my hands on some advanced, fancy shmancy editing software. Any suggestions? Also if anyone could point me towards some guides or tutorials for such a request, that would be awesome.

No idea, since I don't do that kind of stuff.
And please don't hijack old topics. I'll split this off as a new thread.

For still menus I use Photoshop, but PaintShop Pro or Corel (same thing now ?) or even The Gimp will do. I like Photoshop because DLP imports PSD files and uses layers for buttons.

For motion menus it varies depending on what I am doing. Most of it is done in Vegas, but any editor will do. I also use avisynth and virtualdub for specific filters and effects.

That said, none of these tools will do any of the work for you. There is no "make cool menu" button in an of them. You still have to plan it out and do all the work.

  4. If you are only interrested in making Menus then I can't help you much.

But there are so called "cool menu" templates available in Nero Vision Express Menu Creator, provided you are inclined to use this SW.

The problem with this is that it also comes with an average video encoder that is prone to encoding compliant video for no good reason, and a muxer that give regular audio sync issues. Too big a price to pay for a couple of "cool" templates.

I prefer , avisynth , wax2 , the gimp with gap , blender and another hundred 3d utilities for doing all mine ... good old gmax has been retired ... but for high quality still's I still use povray for rendering high quality still's ... blistering stuff ... check out http://hof.povray.org/

The problem is the initial idea > planning stage ... and which order the tool's will be used and for what parts .

And the "how the heck do you use this tool" ... it's why I write the stuff down , just too much to recall at once .

As for guide's ... I have some ... most have disappeared overtime from online source's , so I'll have to rip into them and put them in some order .

    Ps : I refer too template's as scratch pads ... it's a starting point for newbies .
