Hi, I'm passing for lots of trouble with my AIW x1900 here in Brazil.

I simply can't tune my TV channels in PAL-M in ATI MMC. If I put the country selection to USA, they all appear, but in NTSC, without colors. So, when I change to Brazil, the channel list is mixed, looks like some mixing of frequency table. I've tried to fix it in registry, but unsuccessfuly.

I'm veeeeery disappointed with ATI and it's crappy drivers... I have an AIW 9800Pro, who works fine in TV tuning. The programs at that time have lots of settings, allowing me to control every part of problems that appear. Today I have a complete automatic DUMB program that don't allow me to do nothing to correct the errors that IT creates by itself ! !

ATI's consumer support is another bad taste joke ! The user is always guilty and stupid

Their hardware seems to be fine, so why don't the software???

Anyone with suggestions??? Thanks ! !

Let me guess... you're using MMC 9.15.

Install the older versions of Cat and MMC and you should be fine. Uninstall, reboot, cancel hardware found, then run Driver Cleaner v3.3. Reinstall no newer than cat 5.1(?) and no newer than MMC 9.06.1 and you should be fine.

    Read these 2 pages. https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=313886

Many discussions has taken place on this forum about ATI related problems. Do a little searching and you can find many topics.

    Good luck.

Actually, you could try to go all the way up to ATI MMC 9.08. This is the last version that does not buffer in hard disk what you are looking on the screen.

I have a ATI AIW 2006 PCI-e and I'm also having LOTs of problems.

1- Tuner for PALM (Brazil) doesn't work correctly with last catalyst driver 9.12 and MMC 9.16. Basically, I have to scan the channels using country as USA and then switch back to Brazil. After scan is complete, I have to switch to USA and back to Brazil everytime I want to watch TV.

2- Capturing video from VHS as MPEG 2 xwy x 480 will generate a MPEG 2 with xyw x 960 resolution. I already saw another posts that discuss that issue. I will try to modify the registry to fix this.

3- Image and sound is terrible. My AIW 128 Pro 32Mb was really much much better than this shit.

What is the best combination of catalyst drivers and MMC for AIW 2006 PCI-e that will work with PALM (Brazil) tv system?

    Cheers,
    Leonardo

    I don't know but I would guess cat 5.12 and mmc 9.03.

The problems with CAT is that the newer versions are really bloated and will slow down your system boot and add a bunch of aggravation anytime you try to make changes to display settings. The later versions of CAT will also need internet access, or better yet, will try to obtain internet access on every boot and every time you open CCC. I use 4.12 myself and it works fine for me.

MMC versions newer than 9.08 are pure junk and I have even had problems in 9.08 myself. I use 9.03 without issues. The versions newer than 9.08 will give you realtime audio delay during capture, the 960 frameheight issue, and continuous TV on Demand that more or less can't be shut down. High CPU usage and some idea that capturing to VCR format is what we want. Pure crap software all around. I don't use them.

This is also not to mention the problems that are caused when you install the newer versions of WDM. ATI's 200Unified WDM driver is another problem causing software that we didn't need. It is a shame that a company like ATI has all but give up on the video capture business.... lol

    Good luck.

Well, misteriously, I was Using CAT 6.12 and MMC 9.16, and passing for all those troubles...

But ATI launches new Catalyst 7.1 and I upgraded, just "for kicks" ... lol !

I REALLY DON'T KNOW How or Why, but IT WORKED ! ! ! I can now tune my cable stations, my VHS, it seems to work nice...

So, people in Brazil with same problems as me could try to do the Update... CATALYST 7.1 and MMC 9.16.

Another option would be to buy a Hauppauge card and stop giving money to ATI. I gave up on ATI years ago and I have never regretted it. Maybe if you continue to have problems with ATI you'll consider not buying their cards in the future. They are fine if you want to play games, but for video use there are better options such Hauppauge.

I've tried catalyst 5.11 and MMC 9.02, but since MMC 9.02 doesn't support chipset X1300, it was not possible to install it. I gave up...

I've just installed this new driver and you're right! PALM TV system now works smothly. No more tricks!!!

Well, this will be my next step when upgrading my computer.... Lol ! I quitted with ATI... I've always dreamed with All in wonder, and they proofed me that it's a NIGHTMARE. Next purchase will be some Nvidia with Pinnacle or Hauppage.... I hope some of those pieces of hardware works well with this Frankenstein monster named PAL-M...

    Hi Luiz,
I will write in english so people can keep track of what's going on.

I've made some tests capturing from TV and VHS and didn't see any "flashes" or color variation during the capture. I didn't test Macrovision.

Maybe you can try to keep the new catalyst driver (ver 7.1) and downgrade the MMC to previous versions just to test.

    Good luck!

    Opps sorry !

I used to have those flashes, but I managed a way to cope with them, I'm just curious about your experience.

The older MMC use to "think" that some old VHS PAL-M tapes and it's defective image was some sort of macrovision inffraction, and enables the protection. Just it...

If you don't have these kind of trouble, don't worry.
