  2. If you have all the rars and they are all error free you should be able to extract the movie with any program that can unpack rars. The pars are for repairing corrupt rars.

The .sfv file can give you a high grade of certainty that all rars are error free (if it contains CRC32 checksums for all rar parts).
checkSum+ can open a sfv file and verify the files by comparing the calculated checksums with the checksums listed in the sfv file.

Also, many unrar utilities have built-in checking of the integrity of rar archives; they would report it if they found a part that isn't right.

  4. Thanks

I have MacPar delux but if I click one of the .rar parts it says empty.

tried to download checksum+ but just got a web page is computer-speak not a file on the desk top.

    the files are:

    .nfo
    parto1.rar
    .
    .
    .
    part13.rar
    .sfv

    no 'plain' rar.

cheers any idea on how to download the checksum+ ??

you need winrar to extract the .rars (current version is WinRAR 3.62) get it here http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

Install winrar ... go to folder containing .rar files and double click on the first one (ie part1.rar)... winrar will open .... click extract and choose location to save in ... click ok .... all files should now extract and you will have the complete movie in the selected folder.

use quick sfv to verify the .rar files are not corrupt http://www.quicksfv.org/download.html

EDIT: .... just realised you're using a MAC .... not sure if winrar works on MACs .... if not do a search for similar apps for MACs .... any such app will function in a similar way

EDIT 2 ..... there is a version (winrar) for the MAC using the same link as above ... look in list for RAR 3.60 for MAC OS X

Unfortunately Quicksfv doesn't work on MAC's ... however you only need to use an sfv check app if you suspect the rar's are corrupt

SFV check applications, if the .rars are corrupt. Here are some that I sometimes use.

In MacPAR deLuxe, try menu Process > Unrar archive (Cmd-U), then open the foo.part01.rar file.

As I may have mentioned before, there are two ways of naming segmented rar files; one of them is without 'plain' rar file.

Just follow the link that says "Download now" on the page behind my link or one of dwm2287's links.
After downloading, drag-and-drop the sfv file to the checkSum+ application icon. It will start calculating, and give an "All OK!" message when it has verified all files to be correct.
