Hello to All. I have got Roxio MyDVD Premier 8 with all its bells and whistles. The features concerning media managing and organizing are quite cumbersome and I would not recommend to anyone. However the video editing and DVD authoring parts are quite good and offer many powerful features. I recently produced a DVD. Capturing was OK and all tasks were successfuly completed. But the end product on the DVD can not be viewed on the TV by a human eye. The video quality is very bad. It is as though something intervened between the captured avi and the final product on the DVD and destroyed all the quality. Does anyone else have any experience with this product? Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Roxio is not very high on the list of quality products. I expect the problem is with the conversion from avi to mpeg2. You could try manually conveting the files before you author, which will be helpful if Roxio allows you to import dvd compliant files without further conversion. Otherwise, try a different authoring tool.

Thanks for the advice. In fact I followed a similar route to go around the problem. I took the captured avi and divided it into chapters using VirtualDub. Then I converted the avis to mpegs using TMPGenc, which gave excellent results. Then the mpegs were imported into the menus constructed via Roxio MyDVD and the DVD authoring was done. The results are quite good. However it is a pity to have the package Roxio MyDVD Premier which claims to do all these tasks and yet fails to do 75% of the job.

Typical...same with all of the people trying to do similar work using Nero. And to be honest, the problem can't all be blamed on the software. There is no single format for an "avi" file, so the software has to be compatible enough to handle most of the possible types. Performing the work manually with tools made specifically for each task will always yield better results then a single button solution. That is the price you pay for trying to do it the easy way.
