Every time I view an avi file it goes black and white and I get an error for the program I am running and i have to shut the program down, I tried using different media players (VLC, real player) but nothing seems to work. any suggestions on what the problem might be?

1: Update graphics drivers and reboot system , and try playback once more ...
2: Grab gspot next ... it'll let you know the internals of the avi , and if you have suitable playback codecs installed .
3: Next , visit : http://paul.glagla.free.fr/filmerit_en.htm ... read the instructions on how to use it to fix an directshow problems .

That should be all apart from uninstalling all non-system included players , reboot system , and reinstall them and try playback again ... mostly file / registry corruption issue's .
