  1. I was just about to pick up a new dvd player...
I selected a philips DVP5960... but then I noticed it didn't have an optical output.
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't DTS require an optical output?
If it can come accross the standard RCA audio outputs then I guess the quality might suffer a bit.

Also if a component doesn't have the DTS logo on the front does that pretty much mean your out of luck for DTS?

Is DTS worth all this effort?

DTS is worth the effort and will work fine from the digital coax connection (if your receiver supports it (DTS decoding) that is)

JustSomeGuy - The failure by Philips to mention DTS just means that the player doesn't come with a DTS decoder. It will pass a DTS signal through the digital audio output jack(s) (I'd guess it supports coax and optical) to your receiver which would have to have a DTS decoder. This is quite common among DVD players and my old, cheap Philips DVP-642 will do this. Your decision to get an Oppo player is a good one and I'm sure you'll be pleased.
