PAL NTSC recorder AVAILABLE IN US?

I think my Lite-On 5006 has had it. It's been unused with a blank dvd in the tray for a few weeks and now won't recognise any of the recordable DVDs I try - which it has previously accepted with no problems.
Can anyone recommend a decent dvd recorder which is also 'pal' compatible in the US? I was able to hack the Lite-On and play all of the British DVDs. I still have a Panasonic DMR55E but it won't play my British DVDs.
After reading other comments about Lite-On recorders, I think I'll be giving them a miss...

Although I admit I haven't heard much about it (I'm talking from actual users of it) the Philips DVDR3400/37 sounds like a nice machine.

It is a DVD recorder that uses the much celebrated LSI chipset and is capable of playback and recording in either PAL or NTSC. It also will do PAL DVD to NTSC conversion. Last but not least it can be easily made REGION FREE thanks to a HACK that can be found on this very website (in the DVD HACKS section of course).

It has a 1 hour mode, 2 hour mode, 2.5 hour mode and 3 hour mode (it has more but you probably wouldn't want to use more than the 3 hour mode ... at least not if you want a quality recording).

Both BEST BUY and CIRCUIT CITY sell this unit so that at least allows you to buy and try knowing that if you don't like it you can return it.

It has has MPEG-4 (DivX and XviD) playback ability.

The Pioneer DVR-330SM should do the trick for you. Nice, but a bit pricey. Paid $330 for mine.
