For some reason, the sound quality TMPGEncoder gives me when converting a video to VCD is very poor, completly unacceptable. It sounds like 8kbps mp3, yet it's 224kbps mp2. I think it is because it converts 48000hz sound to 41400hz, and does it badly. SUPER gives me much better sound quality when encoding to VCD. But I need to include the subtitles with the movie I am converting, and the only way I found to do that is by following the guide provided here. SUPER needs some kind of script, and I have no idea how to do that.

How can I get decent sound quality with the subtitles? Thanks.

If you're talking about the older TMPGEnc products, such as Plus or the Free version, then yes, the audio encoder was well-known for being poor ... very poor. However, it's quite easy to reconfigure TMPGEnc to use external applications to handle the audio.

See https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1396458#1396458 for a step by step guide on configuring SSRC and TooLame.
    If in doubt, Google it.
