  1. Hello all.

I've got a SONY Handycam Video8 SteadyShot (CCD-TR510E PAL), with 1 Video out and 1 Audio out.I bought the AVerMedia DVD EZMaker USB Plus in order to capture some old Video8 cassetes.I'm connecting the yellow Video out of the camera with the yellow In of the EZMaker and i then open Windows Movie Maker, but there is no video reproduction while the cassette plays.I've tried all available PAL, SECAM and NTSC formats.

I should also mention that when i disconnect and reconnect the yellow cable while the cassette is playing, a single distorted frame of the video appears on Window Movie Maker, which "stucks" on the display window.

    Any suggestions?

  3. Possibly you need XP SP2 for it to work correctly with Windows Movie Maker (it's different than SP1).

Doesn't the EZMaker come with its own capture software, though?

1: Uninstall all camera supplied products , and device driver .
2: Uninstall all software and device driver for the avermedia device .

    3: Turn pc off , wait 10 sec's , restart .

4: Install camera supplied software from cd (it install's the camera's device driver at the same time) .
    5: Restart pc .
6: Install avermedia software (device driver is installed during this process) .
    7: Shutdown pc .
8: Connect avermedia device to usb port .
9: Start pc ... os will pickup avermedian device connected .

10: Connect camera to power adapter .
11: Turn camera on ... set to correct mode (read manual - vtr mode) .
12: Connect video out from camera to capture device video input .
13: Connect audio out from camera to line-in on pc (you may need a conversion cable - rca to stereo in) .

14: Run the avermedia capture program .

15: In avermedia setting's , set to vtr mode ... set required output for recordings ... and default storage folder ... set audio input from pc line-in only .

16: Start camera playback , make sure it is seen in avermedia program ... this tell's you all is well .

17: Rewind tape on camera if required ... hit record in the avermedia product , wait 5 second's ... then hit playback on camera .

18: when done , snipe the blank start of the recording off ... and edit prior to putting on media .

    -------------------

According to avermedia the device dosent specify the need for sp2 .

    -------------------

If you followed the advice on how to correctly install the avermedia device ... connect the output from a vcr via rca's and see if you can record from vcr ... if not , then the avermedia device itself may be defective .

You also have the ability to use "usb streaming" with the camera .

1: Pc must be off , and all other usb device's removed from system .
2: Power camera from power adapter supplied ... turn on , set to correct mode "read manual" .
3: Connect cable to camera , then to pc .
4: Turn pc on ... os will pickup device connected .

From here , you may beable to use windows movie maker , though it's rubbish ... or the camera's supplied product , a little limited .

Nero record , ulead video studio perform better , but require +2ghz system to do well .
But try windv or dvio first .

Well, I'm a little late with the reply, but I am doing the same thing as you. I have a Sony Handicam 8 analog with one video out and one audio out. I am capturing old camcorder videos 10 years and older. I went through several of these budget, big-promises-no results capture wonders. I finally got the Hauppauge 250PVR capture card and it worked great. Capture with the (free) WinTV 2000 software Hauppauge supplies, and created high quality mpeg2 files. Now I can import to a good authoring program and edit. Only thing-you got to be running the equivalent of an AMD 2GHz Barton, and 1 Gig of memory on minimally a 333FSB with a medium to good video card. Otherwise you are going to have dropped frames and problems.

BTW-forget Nero for capturing/editing. Yes, it worked for me (the only one that recognized my camcorder, to its credit) but everyone in my family including myself did not like the poor quality of the capture and editing along with random stuttering/shaking. If you are not fussy about it (I am!) then Nero 7 Ultra may work for you, but the difference in quality between Nero and the Hauppauge capture and the Pinnacle 10.7 authoring was huge.
