I own a LG RH7500 , everything has worked fine for the past year until recently when I bought double layer blank DVDs ( 8.5 GB / 240 minutes ) so that I could burn larger / longer movies to disc. After buying them I started burning one of the movies on the HD of the LG RH7500 onto one of these double layer blank discs but during the burning an error occured, which has now caused all other discs: genuine movies, backup discs, blank discs ; not to work. " UNKNOWN DISC "

I think it has been caused by this blank media. The only difference is that I bought DVD +R this time for the double layer but in the past I have continued to use DVD -R. Is this why this error has occured and won't play any disc now ? How can I resolve this ? The make of the blank media is AONE.

It could also be total coincidence but I doubt it, however I am not sure! If something as simple as a blank media has caused such an error, I'm hoping that there is a simple way of fixing this. If anyone knows or has had same problem , please post back!

    Much appreciated.

A quick look did not not show DL discs in the specs, check your manual.

    Type: DVD recorder

Media Type: CD-R, CD-RW, SVCD, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+R, Kodak Picture CD, DVD, CD, Video CD

    Recordable Media: DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD+R

Most manuals also explain a procedure to reset the recorder.

looked through the manual thoroughly and it is compatible with DL DVD+ R discs. However it recommends certian brands. This could be the reason. Also on the LG machine there are editing features which include cutting, splitting and combining and even renaming. It stated that edited files may not work. However I think it should still be able to at least burn it, because it did start to and it wasn;t until later that an error occured.

Tried the reset procedure given in the manual but no luck : discs still don't play. Down side may be that I cannot burn these longer / larger files but it still doesn't explain why all discs are rejected now. Does anyone know other alternative reset procedures or some sort of fix for my problem ?

Regardless of the fact of which discs are/arent supported, the player recognized and attempted to burn the disc. Apparently during the burn some unknown error occured, either hardare or software, it doesn't matter. The media shouldn't have caused the issue, media works or it doesn't, it doesn't affect the function of the player.

You can try resetting the unit (either a button or by removing power), other than that, there isn't anything you can do to fix it. If it is under warranty, get it fixed, otherwise, it is most likely cheaper to replace it.

I have experienced this exact same error, Nastymind2007. What did you do about it; did you find a solution?

  6. If the media needed to strong of a laser intensity it is possible that it could have toasted the laser. I ruined a old 4X burner by trying to burn a 8X only TDK in it. It never finished that burn nor would it burn anything else after that.
