Hello fellow (X/S)VCD'ers!
Got a few Q. about TMPGenc.
Hope someone can answer them!
Still confused about the following choices:
- Bitrate:
CBR & settings?
or
VBR & settings min/avr/max?
or
CQ & settings?
I am not limited of filesize (HHD attached to dvdspeler) grin:
What is the best Bitrate option? en what are the settings?
- And wat about the "Encode mode". Must I select Non-interlaced?
- YUV format
OK it has something 2 do with colours.....but what is the best setting for a PAL 16/9 TV?
- Advanced Video source type:
Interlace of none interlace?
Does DVD2AVI gives the right information about a movie if it is interlace or non interlace?
What about the source aspect ratios: 16/9 or 16/9 625 lines?
What the hell is the difference?
- about the subs
I use DVD2AVI. But....for the subtitles I use DVDx. It gives a lousy subtitle quality - anyone a clue? or link to a help/document file?
Hope that someone really can help this dude. I've helped so many people here before but I just don't get answers about these questions (second posting)
Well anyway greetz and happy decoding!![]()

My experience has been CQ/75-85/1850-2400
gives excellent video. Of course, CBR 2400 or higher will give you the best picture (in theory anyway), but you'll also pay with a bigger file than the CQ will give you.
Encode mode depends on what your source is - someone else will have to answer this for PAL, since I do NTSC....
YUV is just a different format than RGB - if you notice, you have no choice but to choose 4:2:0. From DVD2AVI, it's just a little faster to use YUV rather than RGB - no real difference in terms of final results.
DVD2AVI gives great info about interlaced or not interlaced (again, NTSC - don't know about a PAL DVD). MOST DVDs (I've encoded about 300) are interlaced in the first titles, then FILM for the rest, although the "Making of" videos seem to always be interlaced and don't IVTC or Force FILM at all.
Aspect ration - not sure - I always choose the "xxx lines" one and everything seems cool.
Subtitle - don't know anything about them.....
