Greetings from a newbe.
I am having frustration with getting VOB files in the correct encoded format to edit in Premiere Pro 2.0
I may be setting up premiere incorrectly as well.
The final output will be a Quicktime file or another than can be used in Apple's Keynote.
I have good VOB's (from a DVD), (that have captions that I want to loose), but am unable to find or choose the correct software or output setting to encode the tracks so:
1. They can be imported at there native resolution (720x480; 29.97fps, 48000Hz)
2. Both the audio and video are present
3. A way I can either loose the captions as I encode or loose them in Premiere Pro 2.0
I open the project in Premiere as NTSC 4800Hz project. That may be part of my problem?
Some of what I need tutoring with is the Premiere Pro 2.0 Porject setup. What are the different profiles for? When do I use one over the other?
And
WHen I export a VOB to a file type, what file type do I use to get video/audio and in the native size? Is there a application that is consistently good for this? I have now tried 4 different ones. So I an either choosing incorrect settings, on Premiere or the conversion optionsor using incorrect software or maybe I cant do what I want to do and am too ignorant to know!
Like wiht YASA VOB to MPEG the output is good at 29.97 fps, 48000Hz but the rez is 448x384 which totally distorts the file. In this app I was able to loose the captions bbut sixe is wrong. I did get both the audio and video.
I have saved it as a WMV in another app that gave me 640x480 wiht audio and video. Then I though Id export the final from Premiere as a Quick Time file for Keynote.
If encoded to avi’s it’s only the audio I get in Premiere (that is with the apps I am using)
If mpg it’s small
Arggg!
If I need to post this in another of the forums please advise.
You're help and guidance are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

VOB2MPG will give you an mpeg file with the same resolution as the DVD, because all it does is demux the mpeg stream from within the VOB. So if your DVD source was full-d1, you will get 720 x 480 resolution. Premiere Pro 2 should be able to handle this, however it is not an mpeg 2 editor, so it will have to decompress the video to work on it effectively.
I don't know what you are referring to when you talk about captions. Are you talking about closed captions, subtitles, or something embedded in the video ?Read my blog here.

Thank you. I just tried VOB2MPG. The result is a jerky video. First time that happened. And when I import it to Premiere it freezes Premiere. Ill try it a second time. Other mpg's wiht other apps did not jerk and did not freeze Premiere.
I was talking about the closed captions that I want to loose.
Thank againBest of days,
