    My PC has a 1Ghz Processor and 512 MB RAM. I have been doing captures using the Pyro AV Link with absolutely no frame loss when captuing from my HI8 camcorder. I just picked up a Sony Mini DV camcorder to transfer some MiniDV tapes to my PC. Watching the tapes on the camcorder screen they appear fine (No glitches). But while doing transfering from the Camcorder to the PC via firewire I am getting regular frame loss. In both cases I have been using WinDV. I capture to a separate hard drive from the OS and it is 7200RPM and defragged regularly. Actually it is virtually clean right now.

    I don't get it. If system resources are a problem why wouldn't I have the same issues with the PryoAV link captures? Why can't I get a good transfer of the DV files from the camcorder?

    Any help appreciated.

    Could give that a try. As far as the cable goes it is brand new out of the package. So I would assume it should be good. I shouldn't have to go through enother device just to transfer the file. basically.

    I Have a ADSTech PYRO A/V Link connected to my PC thorugh a 6 pin firewire cable.

    When capturing from my D8 cam I have to use a different firewire cable as this CAM has a 4 pin firewire port.

    This is how the Pyro is connected to my PC:
    PC => 6pin - cable - 6pin => Pyro A/V link

    This is how my D8 cam is connected:
    PC => 6pin - cable - 4pin => DV Cam

    Have you tried a new cable?

    Also there are some firewire chipsets (TI, NEC, Via, Agere, etc.) that do not like some brands of devices. The PC I have only worked fine with TI based firewire card (Adaptec). My PC has an Intel CPU but Via chipset.
