    Trying to help a friend. She lost her internet connection. She called Optimum online and all they did is tell her to renew her IP address. She checked the plugs and everything seems ok. She was on early this morning. She rebooted, and WAM! no connection. She does not know why. Any ideas n how to help. I told her to unplug from the wall the modem and turn off her computer. Then I told her to put modem back on, wait for all lights to come on modem, which it did, then turn on PC. But no luck. Thanks for any advice.

    The instructions you gave are correct. She needs to call Tech support again and see if there is an outage in her area. If not setup a Tech to come out and check here setup. Also you can goto www.dslreports.com and find alot of info out there as well. Good luck...

  3. try get the cmdline up and run "ipconfig /all" see if computer gets ip address. Then go to modem setup screen see if it is logged into the internet. It is likely that it is not getting to the dns server. Turn off firewall and try. Also can run network wizard . Give us more info on what you have DSL or cable modem name brand, is modem going to computer to a router first, is computer on wireless?
