I have a video file that is in standard avi and convert it to dvd format. I have done this for very many different files using Winavi. I burn them using nero standard edition. About 1/3 of them will not play on my dvd player. I burn them to standard dvd-r. I was woundering is it an issue with my converting software my buringing software or just the obtained file? The error my dvd player will give is This dvd player may not support a playback function, the dvds do play fine on my xbox 360 and my computer, any input would be great.

    Thanks

It could be something as simple as the Media. Certain DVD players can be picky about certain media.

Always use quality media such as Taiyo Yuden from rima.com, meritline.com, or supermediastore.com. Fuji, Maxell, and Verbatim are also good choices - just be sure to check the package for the words, "Made in Japan." If it's not "Made in Japan," it's B quality or less...

WinAVI immediately raises alerts in my mind. It is renowned for being unreliable and producing non-compliant output files.

I would start with changing the media if you are using cheaper stock, but also be prepared to find a better way of actually encoding your movies.
