One (of many) things that I don't like about DVDs' are the use of the confusing names of "Titles" and "chapters". The DVD itself has a "Title", why call the different selections within the "Title", a "Title"?? . The other issue; Books have "chapters", movies have "scenes".

I understand the connection between "authoring" and "chapter", but why not call it 'editing' which it is in the first place. It is with video tape, this in no different.

Why where these very confusing names chosen in the first place??
Why are ones and zeros so complicated? Linear Video Editing was easier. Downloading & streaming are two different things.

Not that it matters much, but "authoring" is more fitting than "editing". Editing is the process of altering and compiling the video that will be on the dvd. Authoring is the process of structuring the data and converting to meet dvd specs, then burning the disc.

There can be more than one video on a DVD, each has a title. They usually appear on the main "title" page.

Chapter marks can be set at scenes or at fixed intervals (eg every 5 mins). An interval in a story is called a chapter, it does not necessarily separate scenes.

As pointed out, authoring and editting are different things.

A little more clear, but still sort of confusing, but not as bad as those annoying menus at the beginning of every DVD.
