I have Nero 6. The Video TS and Audio TS were created with ConvertXToDVD. Do I need another Authoring tool before trying to create the DVD, or is what I have enough? If I need an Authoring tool, can it be gotten "free"? I just spent $40 for the Convert to DVD program. Need any help as soon as possible.

  2. If you have vob/bup files under that video ts folder, you should be able to just burn them to a DVD. Sounds like the authoring phase is done... If you are interested in authoring tools, take a look under the "tools" section. DVD Lab and TDA are popular choices here...

ConvertXtoDVD creates a standard DVD output with menu etc. so yes it is already authored.

Just burn with ImgBurn to a DVD disc.

Also, ConvertXToDVD has its own burning engine so you don't really need another piece of software as ConvertXToDVD can do it all for you if you wish

If you are talking about creating menus for DVDs, then yes you will need authoring software as teh menu system built-in to ConvertXToDVD is very very basic, to say the least

But just for converting other video to DVD, then no, you don't need another piece of software

I use ConvertXToDVD to convert any HDTV video I have, and it does a good job of achieving this, plus seems to be one of the very few pieces of software that can convert divx/xvid to a DVD, but you will see quite a bit of drop in quality, as you're encoding something that has already been pretty highly compressed

Just to confuse you even more, I personally use IMGBurn to burn all my DVDs, as its better than most I've tried and better than Nero (but thats MY choice)

Since you've got Nero, use it.
If your version is anything like mine:

Insert blank disk (or DVDRW if you have one)
    Open Nero "Start Smart"
Select "DVD" at the top (from CD or DVD)
Then choose "Photo and Video" (a film strip icon on mine)
    Select "Burn DVD video files"
Now a file selector comes up. Choose "Add" and select the VIDEO_TS folder ConvertX made.
Then just "Next" a few times till it starts burning and you're done.

I use ConvertXtoDVD for conversion but have had trouble with it's burning engine so I always burn with Nero Express.

I have not seen this quite a bit of drop in quality, the quality is very good. On my 32 inch bedroom set a 1.4GB converted Xvid looks very nice indeed.
