After a program freeze on my computer, I no longer get the audio on the welcome screen,
and my volume control on my keyboard does not work.
I can play audio via hard drive, CD player etc. I can control the volume through the mouse with media player. Everything else works fine.

I've tried another keyboard with the same results so it's a computer problem

I also cannot get the volume icon onto the task bar. I tick the box on the volume setup but it doesn't show on the task bar.

    Running XP with SP2

  2. Go to "Sounds and audio device properties". Select device volume, place volume icon in the taskbar. If that fails, time to reinstall the drivers.

    I reloaded Sound card drivers.
    No different.
I would say the sound card is not the problem. I can play MP3s, video with audio, with no problem.
But I have found that any program with an embedded audio sound does not play the sound.Could this be a Windows problem? If so how can I fix it?

    Thanks

It was just a streaming radio prog. It froze, and I just closed the window. Program has gone now.

    Just a recap:
Any external audio files (MP3s, Cds, video files on Hard Drive) all play fine. But I cannot control volume through keyboard
I have no Windows audio when the computer powers up and the welcome screen apears
I cannot alter volume from keyboard. But it works fine via mouse or arrow keys on Mediaplayer.
I cannot get volume icon onto tools menu
No sounds play on any programs (Nero, ImgBurn etc.)
