My problem is. Ive just built my son a new pc.Its a Athlon 64bit 3500+ processor With 512 of DDR 2 and Gigabyte GA-M61VME-S2 motherboard running Xp Sp 2. It runs really well. He had an old pc which had an old wireless network card, i think it was a cheap mentor. But it runs ok. I took it from the old pc put it in pci1 and booted up. Windows finds it so i install from the disc but it doesnt show under network devices. Just another device that says network cable unplugged. Have i missed something or not?.
Thanks for any help.

I would try to DL the newest drivers, but it may just be that you haven't set up your network and so it's not looking for a network signal. Have you ran the XP Network Wizard?

How would it look for a network signal if under network adaptors the wireless network card isnt displayed.

Some cards require to install the driver 1st then install the card so it picks up the correct driver. In device manager , uninstall it see if it gets detected correctly maybe it is picked under unknown device. Uninstall it take out and install the original XP driver then install the card, and also try to install manually and browse for the driver manually in the properties in device manager. -
what is this other device showing unplugged?
I am just a worthless liar,
I am just an imbecil -
Sorted it.
Thanks for all the replies.
It was just a matter of getting some more up to date drivers then it was away.

The network cable unplugged device will be the on-board ethernet adapter. It's there but not being used so will show as unplugged unless it is disabled in the BIOS.
Network setup wizard in SP2 works perfectly with wireless cards, so that should do the trick. -
Glad you got it sorted out, maureen
