    - New: Added support for new versions of the SONY Arccos protection to the option to remove "Protection based on unreadable Sectors"
    - Fix: Very small Arccos protected titles were not treated correctly
    - Fix: "Too many Navpacks" error with AnyDVD ripper
    - Note: It is recommended to use elby CloneDVD to rip instead of the AnyDVD ripper, even if you prefer to use another program to compress and/or burn (Set elby CloneDVD to DL burning and copy files to harddisk). elby CloneDVD is available at http://www.slysoft.com
    - Some minor fixes and improvements
I use AnyDVD to rip my DVDs to my harddrive and this is the first time I've seen Slysoft recommend that you don't use AnyDVD to rip. Is this a marketing ploy to get users to buy CloneDVD or are there other legitimate reasons. I find the above statement a little troublesome.

anydvd is not a ripper. it is a copy protection remover. if he can get a few more sales of clonedvd out of it why wouldn't he try to promote it as a ripper to go along with anydvd. it's possible there is a movie it does better than a straight file copy with windows, but i can't see any pressing reason to use it either nor have i needed it.

AnyDVD does have a ripper and it's different (or appears to different) than a staight copy in that it can remove unreferenced and blank cells.

I've been using the AnyDVD ripper with that option checked for a while now without problem.

I'm just curious why all of a sudden the recommendation to use CloneDVD to rip now appears in the AnyDVD changelog.

All I know is this: Look at the RipIT4Me forums, Using AnyDVD followed by FixVTS, I had the first successful WORKING rip of Attack Force. FBI, INTERPOL, sony splach, then movie - all other looped the first two. Whatever the tool does, it does well.

The guys at RipIT4ME (great work) spent two days hard work on that one - Slysoft had it already - no updates, just the download from the site.

Anyway: Why only get $39 when you might get double.

No problem with their products (except when pushing CloneDVD on an encode - blockiness) as they update more than many.

If you do use the AnyDVD ripper, you need to run FixVTS - that may be what Slysoft is trying to avoid by recommending CloneDVVD.

Part of the issue here is that CloneDVD2 is able to handle some problematic artifacts sometimes left behind by AnyDVD that makes programs like DVDShrink gag. So, although I'm sure Elby/Slysoft would love everyone to buy both AnyDVD and CloneDVD2, there is some logic behind using CloneDVD2 when ripping with AnyDVD in the background, since CloneDVD2 cleans some things up as well. Of course if AnyDVD simply took care of all the issues which make programs like DVDShrink gag, that would be better still, for those who are determined to use DVDShrink.

    - New (DVD): AnyDVD ripper rewritten from scratch. It is no
longer based on FixVTS code but on the powerful copy engine of
CloneDVD2, licensed from Elaborate Bytes AG. If you want more
control (stream selection, main movie only selection, ...) we
recommend elby CloneDVD2 available at http://www.slysoft.com
    - New (DVD): AnyDVD ripper can now handle heavily protected discs
    - New (DVD): AnyDVD ripper output is now fully compatible with
    DVD Shrink and Nero Recode
    - New (DVD): Protection removal of AnyDVD core is more compatible
with DVD Shrink and Nero Recode. Some heavily protected discs
like "Perfume" (R2, German) can now directly be opened with Shrink
    without prior ripping to harddisk.
    - New (DVD): Added support for new copy protections to the option to
remove "Protection based on unreadable Sectors"
    - New (Blu-ray): Improved detection / removal of region code
Multi region (e.g. Region A+C) discs are now handled correctly
    in "automatic" region removal mode
    - Change: Workaround for registration problem on Windows Vista
    - Change: Removed AnyDVD ripper shortcut
    - Fix: Title 10 of "Perfume", R2, German was damaged
    - Some minor fixes and improvements
    - Updated languages

    Have fun testing it!

It is because FixVTS "unlooped' it, not because you used AnyDVD, CloneDVD, Shrink, DeCSS or whatever other tool
