I recently purchased an ADS Tech VideoExpress external capture device. This works fine with my camcorder but won't allow me to capture anything from my vcr (philips vr805). The capture device says it will capture from any analog source - is this my problem i.e. is my vcr an analog source or does the problem lie elsewhere? Any help would be appreciated.

  2. How are you connecting the VCR?

What are you trying to capture? Possibly the VCR is trying to copy-protect the output(?)

I am connectiong the vcr by av inputs i.e red, yellow and white connections going into the same on my capture device. I have also made sure that the capture settings are set to video composite and not s video. The tapes I am trying to capture are programmes which have been taped from the tv so they are not copy protected.

I have an ADS VideoXpress capture device and I can confirm it does capture from VHS. I had the same problem at first. Tell me, are you using the video's actual AV outputs or are you using a scart/AV adapter? I was using a scart adapter but didn't realise that it only accepted an incoming signal - doh!! I had to buy another one. I just wondered if you were doing the same.

I am using the vcr's av outputs to go direct into the capture device - am I correct in doing this?

If they are definitely outputs, then yeah. Is that how you connect it to your TV?

You're not tryiong to use the AV INPUTS on the front of the VHS player by any chance are you? You need to use the SCART outputs on the back using a SCART to Phono adapter. As the previous poster pointed out, make sure you use an adapter specifically for OUTPUT or switchable.

My mistake I have been using the av inputs. I will buy a scart to phono adaptor and see if that works. Many thanks.
