  1. It said "found new camcorder device". I installed all the drivers. It said it was installed and ready to use. When I try to connect to it from windows explorer, Ulead software, or windows movie maker my computer reboots. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

    It is a Samsung SC-DC164.

    Thanks.

    Hmm, reboots. Never seen that.

This is a DVD camcorder. It records MPeg2.

    What drivers did you install?

Usually DVD camcorders use prorietary capture programs to move MPeg2 data to the hard disk.

Did the Samsung manual say that the drivers will allow capture from other applications like windows movie maker?

Does the capture program that Samsung provides work?

  3. Ulead VideoStudio came with the camcorder. It crashes when I try to connect using that software too. One thing I was thinking is perhaps it is overloading the power supply causing it to crash?

Edit: I never had this problem with my older analog jvc camera.

The Samsung SC-DC164 is miniDVD so I would think you would simply finalize the disk in the camera then use the dvd drive in your computer with Windows Explorer and copy the contents of the miniDVD over to your hdd. No capturing involved.... right?

The camera manual states that a USB PC-Camera driver(DV-Driver), Directx 9.0, and the "Video Codec" must be installed....

By what little I seen in the manual the camera can playback streaming video on the computer through the USB port and can also be used as a web-cam. I did not see anything about transferring DV video to the computer through the USB port. That process looks like its done using the minidvd disk method I said above. I think that was the idea when creating the minidvd format..... no capturing required. But I might be wrong.

    Good luck.

I've only used a Sony DVD camcorder (the first one). It came with a program that moved the MPeg2 from the DVD to the hard disk over USB2.

Scorpion King has the foolproof technique. Move the DVD disc to the PC and directly read the data. The latest generations of ULead Video Studio can read from the Video_TS directory. Version 8 gave me problems. Try v9 or v10.

Even so, I'm still wondering what could be causing the system to crash.

  6. Thanks guys. Yes, finalizing the DVD and copying to the hard drive is the ideal solution. Unfortunately, this particular disk is giving me an error when I try to finalize it. I can view the video (Christmas morning) on the camcorder so I was hoping to connect it to the computer and save it that way. It isn't the end of the world if I can't. My wife is going to try at her work tomorrow (to see if it is the computer or the camcorder). I installed all the necessary codecs and drivers.

I can't even do playback or use it as a webcam. Can't connect to it period. Anyway, I'll let you know what I figure out. Thanks again.

You might find a program that can import the files from the non-finalized disk, but I don't know. TMPGEnc DVD Author, Ulead Videostudio, Ulead DVD MovieFactory, Sonic MyDVD, are a few that might be able to import the disk. Might be worth a read.

    Good luck.

You're supposed to put the drivers on before having it touch your computer.

Can I uninstall the drivers and do it again? How do I resolve the problem now?
