If it's been asked before, and I just missed it in the search, or it's just a stupid question, I apologize. Now...

I just got a DVD recorder for Christmas, and I was wondering about the recording times of discs. I know VHS recorded on 2 hour would be a few minutes more. Is it the same for DVD? I have a show that I recorded from TV a few years ago that runs 2 hours and 4 minutes. I don't want to use 4 hour mode when putting it on DVD.

Any help and/or advice is greatly appreciated.

  2. I've seen SP go from just over 2 hours, to just short of 2 hours 10 minutes, depending on the recorder. There should be a remain time somewhere in the displays. Everything I've used except Panasonic goes over 2 hours.

    Thanks for the response.

It's a Philips 3390. Once I get it hooked up, I do have one to record that's under 2 hours, so I'll check the remaining time and see what it says.

  4. My Philips 615 allots an extra 2 minutes for the 2 hour mode so that you can set it to start a minute before the begninnig and one minute after the end to capture show times that are slightly off. Your Philips probably has the same set up.

My Philips recording modes go up in the following time increments: 2 and half hours, three hours, four hours and eight hours.
