The first thing I would look at would be that error report that MS wants. If you dig through it, it may have the name of the program that is causing the problem. That's the 'To see what data this error report contains' - 'Click here'

Then I would try booting in 'safe Mode' and see if you still get the error. If not, it could be a software problem as most drivers aren't loaded in safe mode.

Not being able to access a older restore date is not good. That's what some virus or trojans can do. While in safe mode, I would run some virus/trojan scans.

You have a lot of programs loaded. That makes it hard to tell if there are some conflicts. But maybe the MS report will give you some ideas.

If this continues or gets worse, I would consider a reinstall of Windows if all else fails. At least back up your essential information, just in case.

Other thoughts: When does it restart? When you first boot or does it take a while? What programs are you running when it restarts? Look in your Task Manager to see what's running, how much CPU and memory they are using. Look for anything unusual, like a misspelled name or one that changes on each boot in the 'Processes' window.

Run 'msconfig' from your 'Run...' window. You can disable most programs and drivers to isolate a software problem without causing any permanent changes.

Check your CPU temps in BIOS also.

  4. What version of Windows?
How about posting the Dr.Watson log.
An unrecoverable HW error can be very serious.

  6. Well the scvhost.exe is a error caused by cleaning the virus which is what that file was... Not that the real windows program which is called svchost not scvhost.

That sort of mispelling is common by virus and malware writer to trick you into thinking it is a legitmate windows program. I'll bet that error comes up at every start. RUn MSCONFIG and uncheck the line for that. It'll be in the startup tab.

For comparison my startup tab has nine items in it for Nero, Antivirus, and AntiSpyware and Sound (Soundmax).

I'd check if the CPU fan needs cleaning or is even running. I'd also run a memory test and also try running with the latest USB device unplugged.

If it is a desktop, your profile doesn't say, take off the side and using your digital probe (finger IOWs) find the CPU heatsink. It should be the largest finned item sticking off of the Motherboard and see if it is hot.... To hot to touch would be bad. Another source if you have a fancy Videocard is the cooling fan and heatsink on there clogging up with dust. Another source see if t he power supply fan is blowing air out of the back of the computer.

Laptops you'll just have to feel it all over for excessive heat.

    Edited for clarity

I can pretty well guess your problem from that last post. You have a virus/trojan. And likely a bad one. You posted the same problem a month ago: https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=313110

The key is the computer is looking for 'scvhost.exe', which is named similar to the file it's trying to look like, 'svchost.exe, a regular Windows file. Note the difference in spelling.

You can also do a Google search for 'scvhost.exe' and you may find some newer methods of removal.

You need to upgrade your antivirus/antitrojan software or be more careful what you download and the places you go on the net.

To start with ... get rid of that weatherbug .

    --------------------------------------------

Usb camera you say ... but what else ?
    Define model , usb1 or usb2 ... the later requires sp2 .

And what exactly are you doing with it ?

    --------------------------------------------

Network connection : net ... how do you connect online .

Adsl connected by usb can trigger such events .

    ---------------------------------------------

Scvhost not found ... thats a protected system file ... go into windows explorer , tools , folder options , view tab , show hidden files and folders ... uncheck "hide protected operating system files" ... apply ... ok .

Right click windows folder , choose search ... search for scvhost ... three may list .

If found , it's a problem in the registry .

Bjs, look a little closer. svchost.exe is the name of the Windows system file, scvhost.exe is a virus.

first you should clean your computer. you are still having malware problems. after windows loads properly, you should then reinstall any software that isn't functioning properly.

me personally, after that i'd uninstall a good 50 programs from that list and defrag the hard drive...

redwudz ... true , but you forget it reacts the same as if it where a system file , therefore any basic method to remove it is defeated ... it will also be contained within the system restore point , so before removal , system restore needs to be disabled ... which is unfortunate .

Getting rid of this particular file :

    Download hijackthis .
    Run , system scan .
    Hit save log .
Check boxs in front of any process shown linked too scvhost.exe .
Check box's in front of anything NOT required from the startup of the pc ... quicktime , msnmessenger , ect .
    Hit "fix checked"

    Now to remove offender :
Delete all under user's default login account contained in :

    C:\Documents and Settings\"your logon account neme"\Local Settings\temp
    Delete all here .

    C:\Documents and Settings\"your logon account neme"\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
    Delete all here .

Back in hijackthis , hit "config"
    Go to "misc tools"
Go to "delete file on reboot"

Browse to offending files location , and choose it by name .

NOTE : There may also be a backup of this in the prefetch folder which must also be included in the removal , should it exist .

New box appears , asking you to reboot pc in order to remove file/s ... do so now .

    -------------------

Re-run hijackthis after pc has restarted , and search for that file ... if it's gone now ... it should stay that way ... however should problems exist ... please refer hijackthis logs to :

  14. Your first step is to clean the virus. Any other procedure is a waste of time and may very well make the problem worse. You do not re-arrange the furniture when the house is on fire.

Almost certain you got it from one of the poker sites you are going to. Also get rid of anything with "toolbar" or "search assistant" in the program name. BTW, Weatherbug is a benign program which does not contain viruses. It is used by almost every golf course in my area for lightning warnings. The weatherbug toolbar may well be a different story.

You need to be more alert when you download and install software, be very careful to refuse the "extras". Get at least two AV programs and run them, run them in Safe Mode, run them until BOTH progs show no problems, then run them on a regular basis.

You have caused your own problem, and this is apparently the second time in 30 days. You need to change your procedures.
