  1. Please HELP!!

My Sony Vaio PC with a Windows XP SP2 fails to acknowledge and recognize a Sony Digital Video Camera connected to its Fiwire port.

I've tried all 1394-related patches found at the Microsoft Support site to no avail.

Any one have had similar problem? Any solution for this?

Thanks a lot for any help, advise.

  2. It may help if we knew whether it has ever worked; i.e. have you successfully connected the camcorder to this PC in the past and it has stopped working, or have you never been able to connect the camcorder to this PC.

Problem isolation will involve trying to determine if the camcorder is the problem, or the PC. This could be accomplished by trying the camcorder in question on a known-to-have-a-working-FireWire-port PC. And trying a know-to-connect-via-FireWire camcorder with the PC in question.

  4. Sorry about that. I should have said it. Indeed it was working properly.

As a matter of fact, it does make the characteristic "blipping" sound when the camera is turned on but it fails to show up at the "My Computer" screen and WinDV does not detect it.

Hope this follow up information helps.

    Thanks,

    Firewire port :

Your supposed to power the camera from external source .
    Set camera mode .
Connect cable to camera , then to pc .
    Turn the pc on .

The most recommended method for firewire device connection to pc .
To disconnect is the reverse .

Firewire is not plug n play freindly ... as connecting and disconnecting the device while pc is powered up can cause current fluctuations within the firewire control interface which can lead to premature damage to both camera and / or pc .

Try connecting the device as described above ... and see how that gose ... if not ...
Uninstall the firewire device drivers .
Shutdown pc , and off at power point .
Remove the firewire card , and reinsert it .
    Reinstall device drivers .
Shutdown pc , and connect camera as described above .

hopefully it's only the firewire with issue , and needs replacing .
