Converting PAL mpeg to NTSC mpeg

The quality when i convert from PAL to NTSC realy seems to go down, i do not know why? I use TMPGENC to convert with the NTSC(video) template loaded. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Hi,

Even using the TMPGEnc you will have problems with the frame rate, wich is 25 fps for PAL and 30 fps for NTSC. The process is:
- Demux A/V, you can use the Tools section on TMPGEnc;
- Deinterlace and resize (720x480 for DVD, 480x480 for SVCD, 320x240 for VCD) the video;
- Pulldown video to 2:3, the video will be 24 fps, but played with extra frames at 30 fps;
- Stretch the sound in about 4%, use some audio tool, like Sound Forge;
- Mux A/V;

It's not necessary to tell that you will loose some quality in the video and audio. I've done once with a DVD, it's was acceptable for a SVCD.

If your dvd player(made in ROC) reads PAL and auto-output to TV/NTSC, I would leave it be. You're adding frames, stretching audio, etc. U mite end-up with an 900meg mpg and have to use 99min cdr's. Why do that?? Save the hours downloading more vids.
