    I want to get into authoring my own DVD's meaning I have a bunch on converted files that are AVI, MPG etc...I would like to make these in to a DVD but I would like to know how to make menus and possibly make all the audio the same level etc..can this be done with different apps or I am gonna need a video editor? thx for any help guys..

    If the videos aren't DVD compliant (See 'WHAT IS' DVD to the upper left), you will first need to 'encode' them. Lots of MPEG-2 encoders available. TMPGEnc is fairly easy to use. You may be able to 'normalize' the audio there, but it's usually better to use a separate audio editor. Audacity is freeware and one possibility.

    After that you 'author' them to DVD format. That's where you add menus, chapters, etc. TMPGEnc DVD Author is popular. Both the TMPGEnc programs are payware. There are alternative freeware programs, but they may take a little more work to use and understand.

    All these programs are available in 'Tools' to the left. There are also guides for them on their tool page and in 'HOW TO', also to the left.
