I downloaded a AVI-file which was encoded with h264. I view the file with VLC and now I want to put it on a DVD, but uptil now all the conversions failed.
    Can anyone help me.

What failed? No output file/unsatisfied with output file? Burn failure? DVD not accepted by player?
Also some more info on your source file would be helpful. What is the duration of your file (minutes)? What is the frame size in pixels? What is the aspect ratio (2.35:1/16:9/4:3)? What is the framerate (23.976/29.97/25 fps)? What is the audio format (mp3/aac/ac3, etc)? What is the audio bitrate?

I could convert it with VisualHub, but the width size is now to big.
Can I alter it so that it can put it on DVD and see it on television?

Your DVD may end up like this, because the source file is more tall than wide, unlike a tv set.

Rename your source file by removing spaces in the filename, just to avoid some possible errors. Load your source file into ffmpegX. Select the DVD ffmpeg preset. In the video tab, set the video size to 400x576 to avoid a stretched picture. In the audio tab, you may lower the bitrate and channels, as your source file isn't exactly hifi. In the Filters tab, set Letterbox to [0,0,160,160] to get black bars on the sides. In the Options tab, turn on HQ, B-frames, 4MV and Trellis for more quality per MB. Encode.

    Eureka!!
At first ffmpegX was finished just after a few seconds. But finally it worked. Thanks a lot.
