  1. Hi all!
Thats my problem: I have some videos on divx and i want to make a dvd with it, with menus ans stuff like that, but i have a little problem makin them. I try to use nero vision to create, it seems nice but for instance, i have divx movies, several with, lets say 4,4g ... When i add to compilation, the lenght exceeds 6, sometimes 10 g... But sometimes nero automatly reduces quality and thats ok, sometimes it doesnt... And i create a dvd with menus and stuff, but the menus dont work... It has background image, the links for each movie but i cant highlight them...Simply the the root menu is kinda of "dead"

I try several programs, but i couldnt found anyone who works good...
Can someone give me a hint? Thanks very much... Merry X-trmas to all!

ConvertxtoDVD is the simplest, most reliable approach. However a DVD is not a bottomless video pit. Three hours on single layer DVD is about the limit without going to half-D1 or VCD resolutions. if you want to go down that path then you need to learn how some real tools work.

NeroVision is very much a poor man's authoring tool. ConvertXtoDVD is no better when it comes to menu design - probably a lot more limited - but it is a lot better when it comes to the most important thing - the video.

If your avi files are full length movies, be satisfied with one to a disc, or buy yourself a divx capable player and put 6 avis on a disc and play them that way.

  3. ive try... not big thing if i can say... Its strange that the menus simply dont work, and in the preview they work just fine... And is strange that in the folder, the divx files take +-4.0g, when i add to the compilation, the compilation takes me to 9 and 10 g... Dont get it! yes, i put 4 and 5 hours on dvd, but doesnt matter cause is divx quality and i know quality gets lower but it goes lower than divx quality so...

Mpeg video requires more space than Divx to maintain the same quality. General rule to follow is to allow 3 - 4 times as much space for mpeg2 as you do for Divx. 4-5 hours on a single layer disc at full resolution is way to much. Quality will not just be lower than your divx files, but bloody horrible.

The basics of video encoding. Space = bitrate x running time. If you want more running time, you have to use a lower bitrate. However, the lower the bitrate, the lower the quality. To a point this might not be visible. However that point is somewhere around the 90 minute mark for good source, and even less for excellent source.

If you want to maintain the quality of the Divx (and trust me, they are not as good as you think they are), get a divx player. If you want DVDs, buy the DVD.
