I have a Lite-on LDW-411S and i hate it. I have the latest firmware but i have trouble with some of my burned media. I select a media that will burn fine and i have confidence with and then 2 out of the 20 will be corrupt. I hate it. What i am looking for is a burner in which i can have confidence and dont have to worry about what media to get.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Cds burn fine no matter what media. DVDs are a nightmare.

You cant just bite a particular dvd burner before doing some test's prior ...
What brands of media have you used ?
Speed you burnt at ?
Tool's used to burn to media ?
If thats too much , then already knowing liteon dvd burners are questionable from test's ... I would recomend lg units above all others , and verbatim , burnt at 4x , as a suitable sollution . -
I am using the latest NERO 7 and burning at the lowest speed possible 1x or sometimes at 2x.
I have tried many media. Most of my issues is during the burning of data dvds. It seems fine but almost always the lowest data (alpha) will give me data errors when attempting to read. -
DVD discs rated at 8x or 16x speed cannot be burned at 1x nor 2x. They must be burned at 4x or faster.
So that right there is a BIG issue.
Another issue is to only use NERO for DVD DATA or CD DATA discs etc.
For DVD Video burning you want to use ImgBurn.

How much clearer can I make that?

First off....give Prassi Ones a try. It is free for 30 days.
Second....if you must get a new burner...I swear by LG's myself. My LG 4167B is one phenominal burner IMO.
Third...if you have Skype....get it out of your startup menu/programs. I had a problem burning recently. Did some research based on the programs I had installed since my burning problems began and came across an issue with Skype and it's C drive activity. Removed Skype from my startup programs and my problems disappeared. -
Chances are that the only problem here is the burn speed.
Just try burning at 4x or faster (I prefer 6x MAX myself) and then test the DVD.
Again it is well known (or should be) that you cannot burn 8x/16x DVD media at 1x speed. This causes bad burns.
Hence that is most likely your issue.

I concur with Hech54 - LG burners - reliable and tolerant of most media and at rated speeds. I have used the models with Renassas chipsets 4163B and H10N.
If you are a disk scanner you won't be happy LGs don't scan.
