Hello,
I would like to know if its possible to capture videos from my CAMERA to my computer (I already bought firewire 1394 cable (4pin to 4pin), its on its way):....
So would like to know the following:

OTHER WAYS:

1- USING USB CABLE, IF POSSIBLE---HOW?
2- TO CONVERT TO DVD FORMAT---HOW?
3- DVD FORMAT & BURNING---WHAT PROGRAMS?
4- Any free programs if they exist?

It is a USB 1.1 port, so any video transferred will be low resolution (352 x 288 or 352 x 240) and heavily compressed. Transfer via USB 1.1 was really designed for taking short clips for emailing.

Thanks all, but I would like to know also(sorry, I know about computers but not much a lot about this thing of burning-encoding, etc, just bought a DVD burner(a damn fast 1, LITE-ON 18X>LOVE IT), so entering into this world).
Need to know please:
What is the format of the video to be transferred via IEEE-1394 FIREWIRE CABLES to my PC...is it DV?
How would I go about converting it & burning it to DVD disc as a movie? or just to a DVD disc.

A simple place to start would be either one of the Ulead VideoStudio packs, or something like Vegas Movie Studio or Premiere Elements.

I use TMPGEnc for encoding the DV to DVD-Compliant MPEG2 format video. Then I use TDA to author that to a DVD file structure (VIDEO_TS). Then any number of disc-burning applications can burn that to a blank disc, I happen to use Nero but most recommend ImgBurn.

How about using DVDSHRINK instead of using TDA for the authoring? Can I? so that way IMGBURN can take over from there to burn right away...can I do it too or not? ANY OF YOU?

DVDshrink does not appear to be an authoring application. Just pick your favorite authoring application, they'll all do that part (MPEG to DVD file structures). I just mentioned TDA because I use it. TDA can even burn the disc if you let it, I don't because I want to verify the results and Nero lets me do that.

So there you have it, to go from material recorded on DV camcorder to burned DVD you just need:

- capture application (WinDV, WMM2)
- convert DV to MPEG2 (TMPGEnc, many others)
- author MPEG to DVD files (TDA, many others)
- burn disc (TDA, ImgBurn, Nero, many others)

You should be good to go now.

Here's the basic steps:

1(a). Capture via Firwire as DV-AVI. This is a bit for bit copy of what's on tape and can be done with just about any capture program.
(b)You can capture directly to DVD compliant MPEG via firwwire saving you some time using some programs like Ulead's but you'll get better quality in the end capturing as DV. Additionally MPEG is hard to edit and a lot of programs reencode the video if not set up properly... If you want to go this route get a few discs under your belt capturing as DV-AVI first.

2. Edit and encode the video. At this point you can make your edits in editing software then encode it to MPEG. If you captured as DV-AVI you need to convert the video to DVD Compliant MPEG.

3. Author the disc using authoring software. This is where you set up chapter points...


Those are basic steps... if your goal is to get the video to disc as fast possible... Try one of Uleads products, these BTW will take you from capture to burn. In either Movie Factory or Video Studio capture as MPEG, put the video on the first play selection in the authoring selection and burn away.

Thanks, all of these programs are good but is there any of the authoring ones you mentioned which will work together with IMGBURN (sorry but I just love this burning tool (so damn good & most of all, its damn fast....then its FREE.)
DVDSHRINK comes to mind as authoring but it doesnt do it as the real authoring programs outthere like TDA is......is or can TDA work together with IMGBURN meaning that after TDA is done authoring, then IMGBURN can launch by itself & do the burning?....or does just DVD SHRINK comes set up that way....I wish they would make all these programs start automatically with others for the diff. things one must do, for example CAPTURING DV then convert-burn to DVD would have their autostart free or paytools.<<<nice.
But anyways...if there is no authoring program outthere which will work automatically with IMGBURN then, how can I make TDA work together with IMGBURN automatically?
Also, there is no free version of TDA right?

Sorry but like I said before on other posts, I am just getting into this burning-authoring-editing-capturing world.....like it.

I offer that you are too hung up on "automatically". It's just four steps. And they don't always have to flow from one to the next. You may do a seris of captures before moving on to MPEG encoding. Or a series of authors before beginning to burn the DVDs To me it's good that they can be done so independently of each other. Trust me you won't foget what to do next. There's only one of those steps that applies to the output of the previous step.

Thanks for that, but I have been having trouble trying to burn with IMGBURN (the program itself if handle right is AWESOME, I LOVE IT!)
But when I use it alone meaning not with a program like DVD SHRINK where they are set up already to lanch after the other then I have problems selecting files to burn etc(in short: When I have a DVD FOLDER ready to be burn & I launch IMGBURN alone, then I dont know what to select, how to handle the program, it gives me problems....but not when it works in conjuction with others......the program IMGBURN works for me, I just dont know how to work it ALONE.

But believe me if an authoring program outthere does exist which works automatically with IMGBURN then bring it on......I just dont like been sitting there to wait until 1 is done then clicking other to start, etc.....but if I have to then I will. but need help trying to make IMGBURN (for me ) work it by itself.

Got all that but when I try to select the files, I get an error saying something that the file is not a TS file, cant work, then follow what it says but still doesnt work., that is where I fail.
I even try selecting each file available to see if it failed 1st, still doesnt, gives error everytime.
