I just bought my first pack of dual layer discs (memorex, yes, I have now read that they aren't the best, but oh well). I have tried to burn two different movies on these discs and have had no success. I just downloaded ImgBurn for my second attempt after failing with Dvd Shrink/Nero earlier. I used this tutorial (http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?s=f7b4a5dcbab9dc71102823824535ff39&showtopic=1780) which walked me through step-by-step on burning to a dual layer disc. Everything was going fine and I received the attached error message. Anyone know what could be wrong (firmware updates, bad discs??) Thanks.

All the references I could find to this error indicate either bad discs or bad drive. In your case, hopefully, it is just the fact that you bought crappy discs. if you get the message again on good discs then you are up for a new drive for DL burning

I agree. "spindle servo failure" sounds like a drive issue. But the easiest thing to check first, would be a different brand of disc. Try Verbatim, they may cost a little more, but they are currently the best and most dependable.

I agree, that error usually points to a bad drive, but also, unfortunately, those are poor discs. Verbatim are by far the best +R DL's out there, try those, if you get the same error with them, it's new drive time.
