Watch the Plextor Europe site: they release firmware there first.

It took plextor 6 months to sort out the firmware on my 712A two years ago: Once done, it's great; until then, I burned more coasters than I can count.

The tech support people will tell you it's a software conflict, and tell you to uninstall specific programs - which will actually work for awhile.

The way that I could tell something was up with the drive: When burning with alcohol or nero, the drive's buffer level kept going up and down from zero to 100 percent - it immediately quit doing it after firmware 1.07.

Dilligence: Don't let them off the hook.

If that doesn't work, buy an NEC, Pioneer, LG, LiteON, Samsung or another brand of drive - put the Plextor away until they get the firmware right.

Burn on only Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim discs.

    Good Luck!

  6. LiteOn has a SATA drive that should be good. I've found that Plextors are expensive.
