    Hi
I use to download the NTSC or PAL versions of tvshows (42min), they are in AVI format, with a NTSC or PAL resolution (widescreen) and the audio is recorded in MP3. They are always 350MB.
I burn 8 of them on a dvd (as data, not as dvdvideo) and watch it on my stand-alone cheap-ass MPEG4 player.

Now one of the episodes is only available in HDTV resolution, 720p, and with AC3 2.0 audio, it's 700MB. It's also in AVI, 42 min.
Ofcourse my dvdplayer cant play this. So I would like to convert it to a normal resolution (PAL) and also the audio to OGG or MP3. I know converting the audio will give quality loss. But I do not want to have quality loss with the video! Is it possible to convert 720p to PAL resolution without re-encoding or transcoding?

No way to convert 720p to 576p without re-encoding and certainly not without quality loss.

  3. Just what is PAL resolution for AVI?

Convert it to the usual 624x352 AVI with MP3 by opening it in AutoGK (perhaps with the ESS Option chosen for standalones), choose a 624 width in the Advanced Settings, MP3 audio at whatever bitrate you wish, 350 MB file size, and in the Hidden Options check the "fps" box with 25fps chosen.

As celtic_druid said, of course there will be quality loss, but it was silly to think there wouldn't be.
