No matter what I try to make a mpg out of a vob file I keep getting this trailing pixel distortion on the movement in the video. And some attempts in addition change the aspect ration to 4:3 so the video is "squished"

Any idea what is going on? How to fix it? I thought there wasn't suposed to be any degradation when you transfer from VOB to MPG.

Its not a DVD rip, it’s a made dvd recording, using a DVD cam. The original dvd playback doesn’t have the distortion, its not high action. The distortion is visible on the smallest movement and sometimes just on an edge of an object. Everything is in PAL, and the distortion happens without any attempts to transfer the PAL to NTSC (will need to do that as well). Just VOB to MPG for editing purposes.

    Thanks

Done cortrectly (just demuxing, like with vob2mpg or rejig) that's true. However, the problem you describe sounds like interlace. Some players obviously deinterlace VOBs when played back, but not mpg. However, the video is identical. Just played back differently.
