You can't burn copy protected DVDs. You need to break the protection before you can copy the contents. After than, pretty much any good quality burner will do the job. I like NEC burners, Pioneer have a great reputation, and many seem to swear by lite-on drives.

I don't think you will find a way to burn a copy protected DVD. At least not directly as you will have to decrypt it first. If you decrypt it, then any burner should work. I'm assuming a commercial pressed DVD.

If, though, you are asking how to back up one of your own discs, then some of us use RipIt4Me for the newer DVD encryptions. Then DVD Shrink and burn with ImgBurn. All freeware and they work very well together.

You can skip RipIt4Me for older DVDs and just use Shrink and ImgBurn. There is also a modified version of DVD Shrink that uses ImgBurn automatically to burn the 'Shrink' DVD. You can find it here: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=63869

Or, if you want to burn a decrypted DVD without shrinking to a DL disc, DVD Decrypter is one simple way: ISO Read>ISO write. Very easy.

If you are just asking about what is the best burner in general, You will get lots of opinions. I myself like the Pioneer 111, but that's my opinion.

Try looking at SlySoft for AnyDVD that will remove copy protection and also audio CD copy protection

It will w ork with virtually any DVD ripping software

Have a look at their own DVD copying software, CloneDVD

Also, a lot of people seem to like using DVDFab Platinum as it rips and burns in one piece of software

MY personal choice is to rip it using AnyDVD with DVD Decrypter and DVD-RB Pro to get the best quality from the final result
