  1. I'm Burning SVCD's That Don't Play (and I'd rather they play)

Using the information and programs recommended at VCDHelp, I'm able to start with an .AVI file (MJPEG), convert it to MPEG2 (with TMPGEnc or BBMPEG - I tested both), and organize & burn it (with VCDImager & CDRDAO respectively) into a finished SVCD. The problem is it won't play on either a computer or stand-alone DVD player (however, I can play the on-disc .MPG file[s] with the software player in "file mode"). I've also tried variations of checkboxes in VCDEasy, but the end result is the same.

Has anyone come across something like this and have a solution?

This is only fishy smeeling part to me, have you tried just taking your mpeg2 file afte you have made it with TMPG/BBmpeg and authoring it in SVCD mode with a burning app like Nero??..Id try that, sounds like you may making some kind of error when using VCDeasy

  3. That sounded like a good idea. So I fired up Nero (had to change my system date, though, as the demo version only works until November 2001) and successfully burned an SVCD using it's default SVCD settings. BUT ... same problem as when using VCDEasy. The SVCD disc won't run on my software DVD player, but I can play the on-disc MPG when the player is in "file mode".

BTW, this is the disc structure from VCDEasy:
    ----------
    EXT - SCANDATA.DAT
    MPEGAV - AVSEQ01.MPG
    SEGMENT - (empty)
    SVCD - ENTRIES.SVD, INFO.SVD, SEARCH.DAT, TRACKS.SVD
    ----------

This is the disc structure from Nero:

    EXT - SCANDATA.DAT
    MPEG2 - AVSEQ01.MPG
    SEGMENT - (empty)
    SVCD - ENTRIES.SVD, INFO.SVD, LOT.SVD, PSD.SVD, SEARCH.DAT, TRACKS.SVD
    ----------

    Anything else I can try?

  4. An update on my SVCD problem, the solution, and some interesting information.

After more tests and research (at VCDHelper.com -- thanks!), I discovered that I was trying to play my SVCD's on a stand-alone DVD player that was not SVCD compatible (however, it did play test VCD's I burned). I have since found a DVD player that is compatible and all my assorted test SVCD's play perfectly.

Probably what threw me off track was that my two software DVD players also would not play the SVCD's. Looking around, I found a software DVD player that does play SVCD's ... and it's FREE! It's the "Hero" DVD player from Herosoft of China. Download their DVD player from their website: http://www.herosoft.com/down/down_file/dvd2.1.zip . Here's a clip of their README file:

Dear user, Thanks for using Hero VCD 2000.
Support playing VCD, CVD, DVD,SVCD,DVCD, and CD, MP3 formats file.
I hope this helps anyone having similar problems.
