Well, I got all the ogm files working fine. But, I didn't think mkvs would give these programs as much trouble (someone told me they were very similar) so now I've got a 3rd topic.

So, I need to isolate the subtitle stream using VirtualDubMod. That program will not accept mkv files, and neither will AVIcodec. I assume I need a codec to do this but as it has not turned up in any of my searches on this site (although nothing ever has so I'm doubting there's any real point to searching before asking), I have to ask where to get it.

The good news is, ConvertXtoDVD has no issues with mkvs so once I can get the subtitles out I should finally be out of your hair and on to burning my first non-coaster.

Try extract the subtitles with mkvextractgui instead.

And, of course, that would be the only one of 12 programs I've download through this forum that did not work instantly. The main download site I can only find via google cache (firefox extension, it can't find the actual software though) and the mirror version is missing some files so it won't stay open more than a few seconds.

Mkvextractgui says it needs MKVExtract.exe to be in the same folder for it to work. MKVExtract.exe is included in MKVtoolnix. Just download and install MKVtoolnix then unzip mkvextractgui into that folder. It will then work.

MKVtoolnix is to multiplex MKV files, and MKVExtractGUI is used to demultiplex them.

When you click on the download link for MKVtoolnix the Windows XP version is at the bottom of the page. The ones at the top of that page are for Linux.....

    Good luck.

Several hours later, I have isolated subtitles. However, it seems that now ConvertXtoDVD has incredibly long error lists whenever I try to convert (twice my comp was forced to restart). Do I need to change some settings or download an mkv codec? Or do I need a different converter altogether? (if it's the codec, please include a link)
