    Hi!

I'm a noob trying to author a simple DVD (2 mpeg clips from one startup menu).

I follow the guides, load the clips, inserts a JPG piucture, create the text (describing the clips). No sound or sub-menues, very simple. It all looks fine in the preview window. I burn the compilation (Nero). No errors.

But, when I try playing the DVD in my standalone (Philips) DVD player, the menu loads (and looks perfect), but 1 sec later the startup menu shuts it self off. I have to choose chapter 1 or 2 manually to see the clips...

I guess I'm doing something wrong with the properties of the menu, but I can't figure out what...

The DVD is going to be a Christmas present, so it's a bit important to me...

    Thanks!

I use dvdauthorgui ... but at a guess for gfd :

Where the menu is displayed in main window , right click it , choose "menu properties"

    Post action : jump titleset 1 menu;
    Set pause for 120

Should keep the menu up for 120 seconds , then restart's again ... dont like inf ... has a funny habit on some units .

I cant say if this is correct or not , but it's the place you need to look at and figure out which of the commands are required in order for it to loop ...

Setting such things in dvdauthorgui is a snap .
Fixing it prior to burning is simple using pgcedit .

  3. 1. I don't know any standalone DVD player with problems showing a still menu (without sound) and pause=inf. But it could be the first one...
    2. Just to be sure: Does the menu show correctly in soft players like WinDVD, PowerDVD or MPC?
    3. It may also help to set the 'Number of frames for still menus' to a higher number (like 12) in the default settings (tab: Intern or Permanent - depends on your GfD version)
    4. If this all fails, try to use an animated menu.
    5. You can also send me the project file (including the author.xml and GUIAuthor.log) preferred as zip. My email can be found in the log file.

    Evreka!

Now it's ok! Changing the 'Number of frames for still menus' to 12 made it all work!

Thanks a lot to both of you!

And a special thank you to the creators of this excellent piece of software!

Odd, I use DVDauthorgui and use only a single frame for stills all the time with no issues. Aren't these programs just a front end for the same command line program? You'd think they'd work similarly.

Still, if the issue comes up for me, I'll know how to fix it.

  7. You'd think they'd work similarly.
If you use the 'standard' muxer (mplex) in DVDauthorgui the front ends work exactly identical.
I also use only one frame myself (without any problems so far). But we had the same topic some time ago (also with a Philips...):

Maybe it is a PAL issue.

    from DvdAuthorGui ReadMe:
In version 0.986, a new option was added that allows the user to create more than just one frame.
Generally speaking, NTSC dvd players will play one frame M2Vs and will freeze-frame on it.
There has been reports of PAL players that are not able to do that, so this feature has been included now.

I tried DVDAuthorGUI as well, and had the same problem showing the opening menu in my Philips palyer. And yes I'm residing in a PAL world.

Borax: I did try reading the FAQ, but as a noob, I had problems identifying the solution. Hope others could find some help thru this post.

Just for fun I tried the first DVD in my sons PS2, and it worked fine! It might seem as a Philips problem... I dont know. My Philips player is rather old, so perhaps newer players don't have these problems.

Thanks again for your support, brilliant app and helpful advice!
