I've tried backing up a dl dvd+r from a dl+r. I inserted the dl+r disc into the sony dvd+rw drive it burned to and it doesn't recognize the disc in it. It shows nothing. How do I make it recognize the disc so I can rip the dvd?

    Thanks

You can't "make it" recognize the disc.

This could be many different things: the disc wasn't finalized, bad media, corrupted disc during burn process, bad/failing drive.

Is the disc recognizable in another drive? If it is, then you could have a bad drive. If it isn't, then it could be any of the above.

Some older dl+r verbatim discs I burned worked on the drive. Recently I updated the dvd fab platninum program and it doesn't read the discs I burned. Is it a setting I need to change? My drive is a sony dvd+r dl 8x. It is less than a year old.

    Thanks,

insert the disc in the drive. right click on the drive icon and choose explore or open, if it can't open the disc, then it's toast or the drive is dead.

the only other option to try and recover anything on the disc is isobuster which might be able to recover parts if windows can't read it.

might be bad medium. try using verbatim dl which is about the only usable dl brand out there.

Actually, he stated they were older verbatim discs.

I've had similar issues in the past, for me it was a failing drive.

hey krispy. read the ops reply again. verbatim is what worked before, not what he is having trouble with. brand is not mentioned in original post. i tend to lean to a bad drive also.
