Can I mount VOB/ISO files with Daemon like I mount ISOs? Is there any way to do this other than burn an ISO with Nero, then mount?

Daemon Tools is for image files. You can use Imgburn to create an ISO then mount that using Daemon Tools.

Nope, you can't mount vob files. You can use the command line tool subst to make a virtual drive from a video_ts folder...but it wont be exact same as a virtual dvd. But why do you need it?

I've got programs that will read a DVD and will read an image mounted, and will read an unmounted image, but won't read decrypted VOB/ISO files. Occasionally that's what I have when I need to use a program that won't read them.

How do you get encrypted VOBs to your HDD ?

If you are reading from a DVD itself then anyDVD or DVD43 can be used to remove the encryption on the fly.

If you have encrypted VOBs on the HDD you won't be able to read them anyway because the key to un-encrypt them is still on the DVD.

  6. Steveryan is the only poster that has given you any decent advice. YES, if your dvd is ripped to ISO, you MOST DEFINITELY can mount it to a virtual drive using daemon tools. After mounting, view it in whatever your favorite software dvd player is.

What do you mean by "VOB/ISO files?

    An ISO containing VOBs?

    1) I don't have any encrypted files on the HD, just decrypted or original non-encrypted.
    2) I know I can mount ISOs, I want to mount VOB/IFOs without first making an ISO
    3) Sorry about the typo of "VOB/ISO" I meant VOB/IFO/BUP as in a ripped DVD nonencrypted structure file set

I'm aware that I can make a ripped VIDEO_TS subdir look like a drive w/ a drive letter I assign, but it does not appear as a DVD drive the way a mounted ISO does, so other programs that are looking for a DVD disk don't see it. Sooo, I'm still looking for an easy way to make VOB/IFO/BUP files look like a mounted DVD disk. Is it impossible (other than burn to an ISO and mount that)?

You could use Nero's image recorder to make an ISO that you can then mount.

No one has asked what software you use to play DVDs. I know that PowerDVD will play a VIDEO_TS folder just like it would a DVD, and I think WinDVD and VLC will as well.

    Hope that helps.

If you can spare 5 GB you can make a partition on a hard disk and if you copy the VIDEO_TS etc folders and files there it might work.

Short answer : you cannot mount VOB/Ifo files in the same way you can mount an ISO file. An ISO file is a disc image, and can be made to act like a dsic. VOB/IFO files are just files. If your player will only play from DVD discs (or mounted images) then you will either have to write to an RW or create an ISO.
