    Hey guys, just recently when using my keyboard i noticed that when trying to use left shift key and a letter nothing appears, however if i use caps then it works, the keyboard is a Saitek Gamers Keyboard

    Dont know if this will help but these are the keys that appears when holding shift (as they appear on the keyboard)

    Right Shift Key

    !"£$%^&*()_+
    QWERTYUIOP{}
    GH@
    |BN?

    Left Shift Key

    !"£$%^&*()_+
    QWERUIOP
    GH@~
    |ZXCVBNM<>?

    Obviously i have pressed every key using both shift buttons

    Anybody know why this would be happening?

    Your keyboard mapping may be wrong. In Control Panel>Regional and Language Options' make sure it is set to 'English UK'. And in Languages, click the 'Details' button and you should see how your keyboard is set. If it's wrong, you may be able to add the proper one and remove the wrong one.

    If you look to the bottom of that tab, you will see 'Key Settings. You may be able to correct it there. I do see reference to a CAPS LOCK and SHIFT KEY there. Be careful. I have never tried this. If in doubt, consult a MS help file first. And remember what you did in case you need to change it back.

    Or there may be something physically wrong with your KB.

    redwudz i tried looking at the regional and languages setting and they were set to UK, as for the 'key settings' the option was there but it was faded so could try that!

    The thing is sometimes the other keys work then they dont!

    For both posters, have you tried a different keyboard? Try using the MS 'On screen keyboard'. It's in 'All Programs>Accessories>Accessibility'.

    If that works, likely a keyboard problem, if not, then you might have to dig around the MS support site for some ideas: http://support.microsoft.com/

    EDIT: I searched around a little and nowhere can I find that the R and L shift keys should or can have different functions. That's sounding more like a keyboard problem, not something in the OS.

    Some time ago, every time an empty box came up(like this box used to type this response), password box, etc., the box would immediately start filling up with dashes(-------------), nonstop. It was driving me crazy. I thought it was a virus or spyware, something like that. Turned out to be a stuck key on the keyboard.
    Before you go insane trying to figure your problem out, try another keyboard.

  10. Well it could be the Keyboard, However I've also seen it be the windows problem in a customers computer that was infested with lots of malware.

    Easy way to test the keyboard.....

    Boot off of a floppy into dos and type ach letter into the command prompt, Alternately Boot off of the 2000/Xp Cd and choose recovery console, type into the command prompt

    If it types fine there and all the keys work properly then it is software. If it acts up there too then it is the Keyboard.

    Note: You need to boot clean to avoid using the windows on the computer and not use a command prompt in windows.

  12. You could try running via the run command this command, Press start choose run and then in te box type
    SFC /Scannow
    That will check the windows protected files for corruption or changes.

    Three possibilities :

    1: Damaged component's .

    Turn pc off and reconnect keyboard , check for loose fitting , sticking keys , damaged pin's .

    If connected using a ps2/usb adapter ... these adapter's need to be matched ... there not all made the same .

    2: Brand name products .

    Logitech and ms both include software for their products which occasionally screw completely working system's about ... if you installed an software that came with it , unisntall and reboot will fix most problems ... and if you can not live without it ... check for a current update , and throw the disc that came with it out the window before it dose anything else .

    3: Failure .

    It's dying a slow death ... it happen's .

    Under warrantee = return
    Not = get a new one .

    ==========

    You might have software running in the background that may be causing a compatability issue .

    Download hijackthis , and run a system scan ... disable all non-system not required from startup ... quicktime , itune's , nivia or ati control applet ... dont worry if you remove an item that shouldnt have been , hijackthis create's a backup so you can restore those function's .
