I'm sure there's a simple solution for this problem but I'm not experienced enough to diagnose it. I'm using Premiere Elements to edit and burn a DVD from home video. When I play it back on my computer it looks good. On a DVD player (tried multiple) I get pixelation and popping sounds usually after 5 minutes into the video. Figured if I had random errors in the write process they'd show up all over the DVD, but I can burn short videos (less than 5 mintues) with no problem. The errors occur when I use no-name and name brand (Sony) blanks.
The quality of the video playback is generally good, just need to figure out the pixelation, popping noise. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

playback issues on standalone players are almost always media related, especially when the discs work on your pc.
Try a different brand/type of disc. Verbatim and TY are about the most reliable for most users.
You can also look up your standalone(s) in the DVD players section and see what types of media others have had success using.Google is your Friend -
Thanks a bunch. I'll check the listing. Problem is some of the movies I make are for some volunteer work that my wife does so they'll be played on many different players. So far the errors show up on ours and the one in the office where she volunteers.
Thanks again for the help. -
You might also try a slower burn speed. Have you ever backed up a DVD with other software and tried it on your player?
-
No, I haven't backed up any DVDs yet. Just trying to make 5-30 minute videos. I didn't see where Premiere Elements gives you the option of burn speed but I'm new to it so i'll check again. Since Elements is a dumbed down version of the software, should I create a DV-quality AVI, then burn it to DVD using some other (more option-laden) software? If so, I would appreciate some guidance on software that works well.
I also cracked my case open and noticed that the HD with my OS and software is on its own cable. I keep video on a separate HD that is set to master and my DVD is on the same cable as a slave drive. Should I set both my HDs on the same cable and put the DVD on its own, or is it preferable the way I have it?
on my to-do list: 1. purchase DVD blanks based on what I've read in the lists
2. check on burn speed options in Premiere Elements.
thanks again for the responses. -
Don't know if it mattters but most would have their HDs on the Primary IDE and their opticals on the Secondary IDE with the burner as MASTER (some manufacturers will tell you to set it as MASTER).

While I had it open I switched over so that now both my HDs are on the primary IDE (OS on the master, backup and video on the slave) and my DVD is on the secondary (master). Not sure it'll help with my problem but I'll report back if it makes any difference. Certainly cleaned up the inside of my case, tho.
I'm working on a short (<5 min) video (actually pictures and music) right now so... -
Switched to Verbatim DVD-R and I've had two successful burns (out of 2!). Feel like such an idiot for making so many coasters. I'll report back if I have any more problems. Thanks for the help.
