I bought this too much time time ago and have barely used. Actually, just to get the video out of my HI8 cassetes.
Now, I want to do a sort of DVD reauthoring work. The task is to heavely edit the DVD and replace the audio on several parts.
This software costs me arround $100.00.
Just wondering whether there's something better than this as far as it doesn't go over $500.00

Sony Vegas+DVD Production Suite
Link ---> CLICK HERE
A lot of people around here say that Vegas is the best of the "advanced" editors and this version allows for MPEG-2 DVD spec video creation with 2.0 AC-3 or even 5.1 AC-3 audio creation along with DVD authoring software.
The price is $559.96 US Dollars.

Which version of VS10 do you have -- VideoStudio 10, or VideoStuido 10 Plus
Comparison listed here: VS 10 vs VS 10 Plus
What type of "heavy editing" of DVD source do you plan to do? Color correction, Overlays, and lots of Titles, or mainly cuts to get rid of unwanted section (or to only include small wanted sections)NOTE: there is a SMART-TRIM function that allows you to easily mark the sections you want to in/exclude.
Since you haven't done much editing yet with the software, you should at least try what you have to see if it will do what you need. It has an Import from DVD function (you can select either entire Titles, or specific Chapters), and will allow you to cut out sections, change the audio, and it even has a DVD Authoring tool built in. The "Plus" version gives you more Video Tracks (7 vs 2), and also has 5.1 Dolby Digital audio. Regarding the audio, you can replace it with a voice-over, and you also have an auto-music generator (you tell it how long, pick from a variety of "styles", and it gives you a piece of music).
And since you have dvd mpeg as your source, the nice thing is that VS10 can "smart render" the timeline -- meaning anything that hasn't been modified will not need to be re-compressed (like other software that always re-renders an mpeg-2 timeline even if there are no edits or changes). This is important because you want to avoid re-compression considering your source will already be heavily compressed mpeg.
In other words, have you tried the software to realize what it can, or cannot, do for you

George
